Compared to the weather of last week, near on perfect condition greeted the 30 anglers attending this weeks winter qualifier, being fished on Jay & Magpie lakes. With 15 anglers on each of the lakes, a continental payout was in place for a fair pay out but it was all about qualifying for the final for many in the field.

Jay Lake

Jay showed signs of improvement in form today, with the majority of the anglers on the lake putting reasonable weight on the scales. One angler who took full advantage of the warmer weather was Bury St Edmonds based Richard Bond. The Van Den Eynde sponsored rod fished single maggot on the hook, feeding 6 maggots each put in to the far shelf at 14m,  to put a very respectful 61lbs 04ozs on the scales from Peg 45.

Magpie Lake

After being frozen for nearly a week, Magpie lake also produced better form than in previous weeks, with good weight being caught on most areas of the lake, including a superb 28lbs plus bag of roach for St Neots based Nigel Fawkes. Top spot on the Magpie was taken from peg 34 by Will Hadley, who fished 16m all day, long lining bread to put a very impressive 92lbs 14ozs on the scales, which was also enough to secure the match win.
