With strong winds and unsettled conditions being the order of the day, making many anglers deciding not to fish in the expected bad conditions, 14 anglers fished this week’s Winter Qualifier on Magpie lake. Those who had the luxury of a back wind were able to put together good weights but for those anglers who were open to the wind, the going was exceptionally hard.
As we all know, winter can be a true leveller, as a good draw makes all of the difference. Taking full advantage of drawing not only the Golden Peg but also the most productive winter peg, Simon Easey dobbed maggots all day to win the match with 160lbs 04ozs from peg 36. Second on the day went to Dale Smith dobbed bread on peg 2, putting 13olbs exactly on the scales, with 3rd overall going to Dennis page on peg 21 with 49lbs 12ozs all caught on corn on the long pole.
