The third annual Over 60’s Christmas match was fished in freezing cold conditions, with the match being fished on a Magpie lake that is notorious for becoming exceptionally peggy at this time of year. Even though this was the case on the day, only 2 of the field struggled to put fish in the net on this very hard day for most.
The match was won from fancied peg 24 by Alan Owen, he fished dobbed bread on the long pole to end the match with a very impressive 119lbs 05ozs. Dave Rawlings on peg 2, also found plenty of bites on bread to the far shelf at 16m to put 109lbs exactly on the scales for a comfortable second place. With third overall being by Mick curtis on peg 28 with 62lbs 08ozs
1 – Alan Owen – Peg 24 – 119lbs 05ozs
2 – Dave Rawlings – Peg 2 – 109lbs 00ozs
3 – Mick Curtis – Peg 28 – 62lbs 08ozs
4 – Brian Yorke – Peg 25 – 45lbs 00ozs
After the match, the now very cold anglers returned to the Cafe for the presentation and a very greatfully recieved buffet laid on by Clair, the guvnor of the Cafe, as a way of saying a huge thank you for the support that the over 60’s anglers give to the fishery every week, no matter what the weather.
The next Wednesday Over 60’s Open is on Wednesday the 2nd of January 2019, draw at the Cafe at 08.30, fish 10.00 – 15.00, all welcome
